Box Score 2 Albion Photo GalleryWESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein University women's soccer team came up empty in its opening weekend of play, falling 4-1 on Friday to Hope, before coming up short on Saturday, losing 3-2 to Albion.
Game 1Hope came into Friday's game sporting a 1-0 record after a 5-0 home shutout of Cornerstone this past Tuesday.
The Cardinals surrendered the game's first score in the 14th minute of play, as Rachael Braginton found the back of the net from a cross on the far side of the box by Erin Brophy.
The Flying Dutch took their 1-0 lead into halftime, holding a 10-3 shot advantage over Otterbein.
Hope opened the second half of action with its second goal one minute into the frame, as Sarah Fazio scored on a cross from outside the box by Brophy.
Otterbein allowed another pair of goals, before
Megan McCabe gave the Cardinals their first score of the year off a cross in the box from
Erica Meier in the 89th minute.
The Cardinals were outshot 20-5, while
Dana Strimbu led the game in saves with six to opposing goalkeeper Mary Clare Theis's two. Otterbein's four goals allowed to Hope was the first time the Cardinals allowed that many goals in 13 years, and only the third time in 17 years (320 games).
Game 2Otterbein allowed a pair of first half goals two minutes apart from one another, as Sam LaRocca netted both scores for the Britons.
The Britons maintained their 2-0 lead over the Cardinals until
Polly Sellers headed in a shot off a corner kick from
Ali Stone in the 38th minute of action.
Megan Gordon then tied the game at two goals apiece just two minutes later, scoring from about 20 yards outside the box off an assist from
Hayley Hotchkiss.
However, following an Otterbein foul just outside the Cardinals box, Albion's Mikaela Ray scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute off a free kick from 10 yards out.
The Cardinals got a handful of opportunities down the stretch to even the score, but to no avail. In total, Otterbein outshot Albion 15-13, while also holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Otterbein will look to pick up its first victory of the season on Sept. 9 as Denison visits Memorial Stadium for a non-conference matchup. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
