Men's Basketball Suffers Loss at No. 10 Marietta

Box Score

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's basketball team dropped another challenging conference matchup Saturday afternoon against another nationally-ranked opponent, falling 109-58 at No. 10 Marietta College.

The Pioneers, shooting over 59 percent for the game, run their record to 13-2 overall and 7-1 within Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play while dropping the Cards to 3-12 this season, 1-7 against the league.

Otterbein, on the road after dropping a hard-fought home game against No. 7 John Carroll on Wednesday, trailed just 18-15 at the 12:29 mark after guard Jake Phillis buried a pair of free throws. Marietta found some breathing room after that point, using a 14-0 run to seize a double-digit lead before ultimately taking a 56-31 lead by halftime.

Marietta cruised to victory in the second half, opening a 72-39 with 13:15 remaining in the game en route to its fifth-straight win.

The Cards shot 41.2 percent for the contest but struggled from behind the arc, making just 4 of 21 attempts while the Pioneers went 12 of 22. Marietta finished with a 64-19 edge in bench points.

Senior Marc McCuen led Otterbein with 14 points and seven rebounds while Phillis contributed 10.  A.J. Edwards scored 16 to pace four Marietta players in double figures.

Otterbein will look to get back in the win column when it returns to action on Wednesday evening, staying on the road to take on Wilmington College (2-11, 1-7 OAC) at 7 p.m.
