BEXLEY, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer was blanked, 2-0, at cross-town rival Capital in its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.
Otterbein (5-3-1 overall) moves on to a two-game homestand beginning with Ohio Northern on Tuesday at Memorial Stadium. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
The Crusaders struck early in the game as Jordan Fike found the back of the net in the eighth minute for her second score of the year off a cross from Becca Cartmill.
Capital held a 6-4 advantage in shots in the opening frame, as Crusader goalkeeper Hannah Klotzsche saved back-to-back shots by the Cards late.
The Cardinals were unable to unload any shots through the first 24 minutes of the second half, while the Crusaders added to their lead in the 63rd minute on a goal by Caroline Hester from 20 yards out off the help from Cartmill.
Otterbein was able to tally three more shots over the final 36 minutes of action, but to no avail, as Capital ended the match owning a 13-7 margin in shots. Seven of the Crusaders' 13 shots came on goal to the Cards' mark of three.
A total of three Cardinal players recorded a shot in the game, with senior
Madison Burchfield leading the team with four. Otterbein did win the corner kick total, 7-2.
