Box Score
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team was downed, 2-1, at John Carroll on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at Don Shula Stadium.
Otterbein (7-5-3 overall) drops to 2-3-1 in conference play with its first losing decision in nearly three weeks. The Cardinals travel to Baldwin Wallace on Saturday for their final road regular-season game at 7 p.m.
After a rainy and scoreless first half of play in which the Blue Streaks held a 10-5 advantage in shots, JCU managed to tally a pair of second half scores while stymieing the Cardinal offense until late.
JCU's initial goal came in the 55th minute off the foot of John Kanakkannat before he turned around to assist on the team's second score by Jesse Marinaro less than seven minute later.
Less than two minutes later the Cards earned a penalty kick following a JCU foul inside its own box, but the kick by senior
Costa Poulias was saved in a valiant effort by Blue Streak goalkeeper Liam McIntosh.
Junior
Gavin Koerner netted the lone goal of the game for Otterbein in the 89th minute for his third score of the season off freshman
Zach Barwick's first collegiate assist. The Cards were able to narrow the shot deficit in the second half, as the Blue Streaks wrapped up the match owning a 16-14 margin.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann, the reigning OAC Player of the Week in men's soccer, stopped six shots in over 80 minutes of action between the posts.
