WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to John Carroll on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) game at Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein (8-5-1 overall) moves to 3-3 in league play with three regular-season games remaining on the schedule. The Cards will recognize their 13 seniors on Friday night as they host Baldwin Wallace at 7 p.m.
The first half proved to be a scoreless frame with the Cardinals leading 6-3 in shots and earning a few good looks on goal following seven fouls issued to the Blue Streaks.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Andrea Pohlman made the play of the half less than three minutes into the game after stifling a JCU shot from close range on a ball that was headed toward the goal following a rebounded shot off the crossbar.
Much of the same play carried into the second half, adding in the fact that the Blue Streaks tallied 12 shots to the Cards' mark of five. The lone goal of the match came with just over a minute left to play as a foul was called on Otterbein just outside its box, awarding JCU with a free kick from about 12 yards out.
JCU's Andrea Regrut stepped up for the kick and fired the shot to the top shelf of the Cardinal goal past the reach of Pohlman and the heads of several defenders. The foul that set up the free kick was a part of 18 fouls and four combined yellow cards issued on the night.
