WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team topped Baldwin Wallace, 3-2, in overtime on Friday night in a thrilling Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at Memorial Stadium.

Otterbein (9-5-1 overall) improves to 4-3 in the league standings, tying BW at 12 points overall with two games remaining on the regular-season schedule.

The first half featured an entertaining 45 minutes of action with a combined 18 shots taken, including a pair of goals scored. BW notched the initial score six minutes into play off Rachel Bender's league-leading 17th goal of the season.

Senior Madison Burchfield matched Bender in the seventh minute, heading in her fifth goal of the season following a well-placed corner kick by freshman Holly Bernhold. The Yellow Jackets ended the first frame with a 10-8 advantage in shots.

Burchfield carried her scoring efforts into the second half, netting her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 61st minute. The goal came off an assist from fellow senior Erica Meier, who lofted the ball into box where Burchfield struck it in toward the far post for the score.

Just over 15 minutes passed before BW's Kelly Gough knotted the score at two goals apiece following a free kick from 40 yards out from Kenna Poptic. The game remained tied at 2-2 for the rest of the period, as a combined 33 shots were unloaded in regulation.

Meier then served up the highlight in overtime, punching in her fifth goal of the season in the 99th minute by gathering the ball off a header in the open field from Burchfield, dribbling the ball through the defense and placing it inside the far post.

The match ended with a well-balanced effort on both sides, as Otterbein edged BW in shots, 18-17, and the Yellow Jackets owning a 10-6 margin in shots on goal. The two teams also combined for 30 fouls in a spirited battle.

Otterbein wraps up regular-season play next week with a two-game road trip, beginning Wednesday with an afternoon tilt at Marietta. First kick is slated for 3:30 p.m. in Marietta, Ohio.
