BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in overtime at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at George Finnie Stadium.
The Cardinals (7-6-3 overall) fall to 2-4-1 in league play, as they prepare for their final two home regular-season games of the season beginning next Tuesday against Marietta. First kick is set for 7 p.m.
The story for the majority of the game was goalkeeping for both sides, as Cardinal goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann and the Yellow Jackets' Patrick Mehal totaled 12 saves between one another in regulation.
Mehal was especially busy down the stretch, as the Cards unloaded four shots in the final minute of regulation, three of which came on goal, before heading into overtime. Hoffmann, the reigning OAC Player of the Week, went the distance in goal and finished with five saves.
Shots were aplenty for both teams as 36 of them were tallied between the two in regulation alone, with the Cards holding an 11-8 advantage at halftime before carrying a 19-17 margin into the extra frame.
BW earned consecutive corner kicks six minutes into the overtime period, with the second one proving to be the decisive boot from Danny Ruple to Logan Davis for the game's lone goal. Otterbein was held to just one shot in the period.
Nine players accounted for the Cards' shot total, led by junior
Gavin Koerner's mark of five. Sophomore
Erick Juarez-Manning followed with four of his own and freshman
Pau Piang with three.
