MARIETTA, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team tallied a 3-0 victory at Marietta on Wednesday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup, reaching a program milestone along the way.
Otterbein (10-5-1 overall) improves to 5-3 in league play with Saturday's regular-season finale at Mount Union at 1 p.m. left on the schedule. The OAC Tournament begins next Tuesday, Nov. 1, as the Cards vie for one of the top-four spots for the rights to host a game at Memorial Stadium.
Three program milestones were noted in the win for the Cards as they recorded their 200th shutout in team history, while senior
Madison Burchfield added to her standout career by moving into the top-eight in program history in both points (63) and goals (26).
Freshman
Katie Exline, who continues to add to her impressive inaugural campaign, netted the initial goal of the game, and her fifth of the season, in the 37th minute after a cross into the box from senior
Abbey Miltko.
Burchfield then went on to tally a pair of goals for the second-straight game, heading in a corner kick from classmate
Alvi Shivley in the 43rd minute before extending the Cards' lead to 3-0 in the 86th minute.
Otterbein held an 8-3 advantage in shots at the break, before dominating in the second frame with a 7-0 shot margin. The Cards ended the contest with a commanding 15-3 shot total, while also earning nine corner kicks to the Pioneers' mark of two.
Senior
Andrea Pohlman stopped a pair of shots in goal, picking up her eighth shutout and 10th win of the season. The Cards have now posted two or more goals in each of their 10 wins this season, proving undefeated when they notch at least two scores.
