ADA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team was shutout, 5-0, at No. 7-ranked Ohio Northern on Wednesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at Kerscher Stadium.
The Cardinals (5-4-2 overall) drop to 0-2 in conference play after facing two of the top teams in the league in consecutive matchups going back to last Saturday's 1-0 loss to Capital.
Otterbein has now faced four nationally-ranked opponents so far this season, posting an 0-3-1 record.
Otterbein battled ONU through the first half of play despite allowing conceding 14 shots to its own mark of three. The Polar Bears took advantage of their shot margin in the 31st minute, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime on a goal from Dustin Lorenzo.
ONU also earned six corner kicks in the opening frame with Otterbein tallying one, while the Polar Bears were drawn offside four times.
Over 15 minutes passed in the second half before Matt Kinkopf, one of the league's top scorers, extended the Polar Bears' lead to 2-0 with his seventh goal of the season.
ONU added three goals over the remaining 30 minutes of action, inflating their lead to 5-0, handing the Cards just their second losing decision in the last eight games.
