WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team picked up a 4-0 win over Muskingum on Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein (7-3-1 overall) also posted its second-straight win in league play, improving to 2-1, and have now defeated Muskingum in shutout-fashion in each of the last 14 meetings.
The Cards scored their first goal on a well-placed cross into the box from senior
Abbey Miltko to classmate
Alvi Shivley, who put it away for her fourth goal of the season.
The remainder of the first half was quiet on the scoring front despite Otterbein holding an 11-2 advantage in shots at the break, including a 7-1 margin in shots on goal.
Senior
Erica Meier jump started the Cards' offense in the second half, netting a pair of goals just over 10 minutes apart to give the team a 3-0 lead. Her first goal came in the 57th minute after she slipped the ball past a Muskie defender and shot far post.
Meier then notched her fourth goal of the year in the 67th minute, scoring just inside the top of the Muskingum box after a dish from classmate
Megan Gordon. Freshman
Katie Exline inflated the Cards' lead to 4-0 in the 76th minute, tallying her fourth goal of the year off an assist by
Hayley Hotchkiss.
Otterbein ended the match with a 21-4 advantage in shots, 14 of which came on goal. Cardinal goalkeeper
Andrea Pohlman continued her stellar play between the posts with her seventh win of the year, saving two shots. Muskingum goalkeeper Liz Mitchell had a busy day in goal, stopping nine shots.
The Cardinals open up a two-game road trip beginning next Wednesday at Wilmington. First kick is slated for 7 p.m.
