Box Score UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team wasn't enough for fourth-ranked John Carroll University Wednesday evening, falling 95-48 to the undefeated Blue Streaks on the road.
John Carroll remains perfect in its quest for an undefeated regular-season, improving to 20-0 overall and 13-0 against the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).
A pesky Otterbein squad hung close throughout most of the first half, trailing just 13-12 after a jumper from
Connor Clark at the 12:25 mark.
JCU eventually opened a double-digit lead at 31-20, but the Cards only found themselves down eight points, 36-38, after a three-pointer from
Jake Phillis with 2:03 left before the break. Unfortunately, the Blue Streaks finished the half on a quick 7-0 run to take a 43-29 advantage into the locker rooms for intermission.
John Carroll carried that momentum into the second frame, beginning with 10-straight points to begin the period that completed a 17-0 run in all. Otterbein (4-16, 2-11 OAC) would never recover as the Streaks cruised to victory.
Senior
Marc McCuen led the Cardinals with eight points as the team shot just 28 percent from the floor, compared to a 49-percent output by JCU.
Matt Hughes snagged a team-high 10 rebounds.
David Linane scored 16 to lead four John Carroll players in double figures.
Otterbein will stay on the road to finish out the week, heading to Berea for a rematch with Baldwin Wallace University come Saturday at 3 p.m. The Cards dropped an 80-69 contest with the Yellow Jackets earlier this season at home.
