Box Score GAMBIER, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team came up short in non-conference play Saturday afternoon, absorbing a 14-7 road loss to host Kenyon College at McBride Field.
Kenyon grabbed an early 2-0 lead, but Otterbein junior
Katy Williams sliced that deficit in half on a goal at the 23:02 mark after a pass from senior
Annie Kelly.
The Cardinals only trailed 3-2 after Williams netted her second goal midway through the opening half, but the Ladies (3-0) finished the period on a 6-1 run to take a six-goal advantage into the locker rooms for intermission.
Kenyon pushed the lead to 11-3 to begin the second half before Williams converted a man-up opportunity, keeping Otterbein within striking distance for the time being. The Ladies then responded with three-straight goals to open a double-digit cushion with 16:03 left in regulation.
Otterbein did not go quietly and fought to the finish, getting goals from Kelly,
Abby Smoot and
Ali Kula from that point on to make the final score rest at 14-7.
Kenyon doubled up Otterbein in shots for the contest, at 33-16, and was able to secure 14 of the 23 draw controls. Cardinal goalie
Karen Brady made a season-best 11 saves in the cage.
Williams, Kelly and Smoot all tallied three points for Otterbein, which will start a string of five-straight home games this coming Thursday against Ohio Wesleyan, 5 p.m.
