Box Score Photo GalleryWESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game of the season Wednesday afternoon, falling by a score of 12-7 to visiting Oberlin College at Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals, moving to 2-6 on the season, will now have nine days off before opening Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play next Saturday against Muskingum University. Game time will be 1 p.m.
Oberlin (6-3) jumped ahead early on, opening a 6-0 lead by the 7:48 mark of the first half. Otterbein's
Katy Williams scored twice before halftime, sandwiched around a Yeowomen goal, to make the score 7-2 entering intermission.
The Cards held strong throughout the second half, staying within striking distance but never being able to close within the five-goal gap as Oberlin ultimately prevailed.
Williams tallied a hat trick to pace Otterbein while
Veronica Wagner and
Abby Smoot each scored twice. Defender
Megan Kanya came up with a game-high eight ground balls while
Annie Kelly went for seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and two draw controls.
Maggie Mullard and Suzanna Doak each netted four scored to lead the visitors, which outshot Otterbein 28-17 for the game and snagged 15 of 20 draw controls. Senior
Karen Brady made nine saves in the cage for Otterbein and Oberlin's Alexa L'Insalata had six on the opposite end. Â
