Otterbein, now 1-3 on the young season, will look to finish out the week strong with a 1 p.m. matchup at Kenyon College Saturday afternoon.
Otterbein dominated possession from the start, but the MSJ defense hung tough initially and kept the Cards off the scoreboard throughout the first six minutes. The Cardinals eventually settled into a groove, netting a goal off the stick of sophomore
Ali Kula at the 23:58 mark and building a 5-0 lead by intermission.
Otterbein remained in control to begin the second half, receiving a goal from
Katy Williams just 41 seconds in and slowly pulling away. Freshman
Abby Smoot took control of the offense from that point, assisting on five-straight goals as the Cardinals pushed the margin to 11-0 midway through the period.
Senior
Annie Kelly was seemingly everywhere on the field from start to finish, tallying four goals, three assists, 10 ground balls, six caused turnovers and winning three draw controls. The seven points was one shy of her single-game best.
Smoot added a late goal and finished with six points in the contest, while junior
Katy Williams scored three times and assisted on another. She has a team-best 10 goals so far this season.
Otterbein dominated the draw control with a balanced effort, winning 15 of 16 opportunities and seeing six different players snag two or more.
Veronica Wagner led the way with four.
Kathryn Mapes was admirable in goal for Mount St. Joseph, stopping 12 shots in 40 minutes of action before giving way to teammate Morgan Wareham. Otterbein goalie
Karen Brady was forced to make just one save on the opposite end.
