WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team advanced itself to 3-1 within Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Wednesday evening, turning back visiting Ohio Northern University by a score of 15-5 at Memorial Stadium.
Senior
Annie Kelly scored just 12 seconds into the game to put Otterbein ahead, but the Polar Bears (6-7, 1-3 OAC) tied the contest with a goal from Maggie Fuller at the 21:35 mark. Otterbein slowly inched away as the first half progressed, getting four goals from sophomore
Nicole Coccagno en route to a 6-2 halftime lead.
The Cards put the game away early in the second half, using two scores from junior
Katy Williams in the opening minute and eventually bumping the cushion to double digits with 12:45 left to play.
Kelly and Coccagno each scored four times to lead Otterbein, which outshot Ohio Northern 47-14 and 18 of 22 draw controls. Sophomore
Veronica Wagner claimed a game-high six draws while Kelly turned in 10 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.
Williams tallied a hat trick while freshman
Abby Smoot worked nicely behind the net, dishing out three more assists to pace the Cardinal attack.
ONU was led by three goals from Maddie Storr and a whopping 18 saves from goalie Shannen Larsen Van Alstine. Otterbein goalie
Karen Brady earned the win by stopping six shots on her end.
