ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team concluded its 2016 season Saturday afternoon on the road, falling by a score of 20-4 at league-leading Mount Union.
The Cardinals finish their campaign at 5-10 overall while the Purple Raiders (13-3, 7-0 OAC) complete an undefeated regular-season within the Ohio Athletic Conference. Only the top-four teams advance to the OAC Tournament.
Otterbein struck first on the day, with ten minutes passing in the contest before sophomore
Nicole Coccagno found the back of the net at the 19:36 mark off an assist from senior
Annie Kelly. The Cards only trailed 7-3 as the game clocked ticked under 8:00 to play in the first half, but Mount tallied a pair of goals before intermission to seize a 9-3 advantage.
The Raiders pulled away in the second half, scoring ten-straight times before Kelly was able to add a goal for Otterbein with 7:38 remaining. She missed last game with an injury but was able to grace the field one final time Saturday before wrapping up a nice four-year run.
Mount Union finished with a 43-8 shot advantage, won 13 of 17 draw controls and forced the Cards into committing 20 turnovers.
Coccagno and Kelly each finished with two points in the game while junior
Katy Williams added a goal. Taylor Pensyl, Emily Bergert and Marjie McNamara all registered hat tricks to lead the opposition.
The contest marked the final collegiate outing for Kelly and fellow classmates
Jami Aufderbeck,
Karen Brady and fifth-year
Alanna Schultz. Brady made seven saves in goal.
