WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men's cross country team secured an exciting victory Saturday morning at the annual Otterbein Invitational, finishing atop the leaderboard of 20 schools.

Otterbein, winning the event for the first time since 2003, placed three runners inside the top 10, under somewhat unfriendly course conditions, to emerge by 56 points over second-place Ohio Wesleyan University.

The Cardinals had come close to winning in recent years, finishing second in 2015, second in 2014, third in 2013 and second in 2012.

Sophomore Ian Kellogg (26:59) led this year's effort with an eighth-place finish, followed closely by freshmen Wyatt Gardner (27:09) in ninth place and Jacob Thompson (27:15) in 10th. Overall, 215 runners competed in the field.

Sophomore Trevor Dilley, 13th place, cross the line in a time of 27:35 while sophomore Jamey Ehret strung together a result of 27:53 to earn 21st.

Otterbein will now take another two weeks off before competing in the All-Ohio Championships, hosted on Friday, Sept. 30 by Cedarville University.
