WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer team posted its third-straight shutout with a 4-0 win over Bluffton on Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein (4-1-1 overall) has now scored three or more goals in its last three matchups and looks to make it four-straight wins as the team travels to Mount St. Joseph on Sunday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The Cardinals broke open the scoring early as senior
Madison Burchfield found the back of the net off a short corner from classmate
Alvi Shivley. The score was Burchfield's team-leading third goal of the season.
Junior
Alyssa Spencer added to the Cardinal lead in the 23rd minute, scoring her first goal of the year on a header into the top shelf of the Bluffton goal off a free kick in the corner by Shivley.
Otterbein boosted its lead to 3-0 with less than a minute remaining in the half, as freshman
Megan Losey fired a shot from 30 yards out that initially went off Bluffton goalkeeper Courtney Davis' hands, but then trickled past the goal line.
The Cards held a 14-1 advantage in shots through the initial frame, striking eight shots on goal. Davis was kept busy in goal for the Beavers in the opening half, stopping five shots.
Shivley carried her impressive play into the second half by adding her third goal of the year in the 50th minute, rebounding the ball off a Beavers defender before slipping the ball into the back of the net.
Otterbein ended the match owning a 26-4 margin in shots and 10-0 mark in corner kicks. Cardinal goalkeeper
Andrea Pohlman went the distance in goal for her fourth win, saving a pair of shots. Davis totaled an admirable 12 saves in 90 minutes for Bluffton.
