Cardinals Suffer First Loss of Season at Denison

Box Score

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team suffered a tough loss Wednesday evening at Denison University, falling 3-0 in non-conference action.

The Big Red would take the lead for good when Maggie Armstrong delivered a header into the back of the net, assisted from a cross into the box delivered by Jacquie Graham, in the 18th minute.

The Cardinals would remain unable to score in the first half, allowing Denison to carry the 1-0 lead going into intermission. The hosts maintained a slim 3-2 shot advantage over the Cards.

Otterbein returned from halftime with some fire, ripping off three shots within the first-five minutes of the second half. Two saves by Denison goalkeeper Jenny Herold and good defense by the Big Red kept Otterbein off the board.

Even with the Cardinals' aggressive start, Denison extended its lead with a goal by Graham, assisted by Phoebe Gilbert, at the 54:31 mark.

Denison solidified the victory with a third goal scored in the 78th minute by Ashlyn Flaherty, with the assist coming from Armstrong.

The Cardinals posted a 10-9 shot advantage over the Big Red, while Denison's Herold carded a 4-1 save advantage over Cardinal goalkeeper Andrea Pohlman.

Otterbein will have the weekend off and then look to bounce back next Wednesday, when they will take on Ohio Wesleyan at Memorial Stadium for a 4 p.m. start time.
