WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 contest to Heidelberg to snap its two-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) at Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals (9-3-1 overall) move to 2-3 in conference play with just four games remaining on the regular-season schedule, beginning next Wednesday with a trip to third-place John Carroll at 7 p.m.
Heidelberg notched the game's first goal in the 19th minute as sophomore Erica Campbell scored her team-best 10th goal of the season after gathering the ball off a touch from the Cardinal defense.
The Cardinals responded prior to the end of the half as freshman
Emily Ganz tallied her third goal of the year off a pass lofted deep near midfield from sophomore
Holly Bernhold, before Ganz gathered the ball in and slipped past a few defenders to even the score.
Otterbein held a distinct 14-2 advantage in shots in the opening frame, while the Berg countered with seven saves from goalkeeper Alexandra Farmer, the league-leader in saves.
The Cardinals continued to add to their shot total as the second half got underway, firing a trio of shots through the first nine minutes of action to keep the pressure on Heidelberg's defense.
But it was Heidelberg which regained the lead in the 70th minute as Abigail Callahan netted a shot from 25 yards out for her third goal of the year, putting the Berg back in front 2-1.
The score remained the same over the final 20 minutes of play as Otterbein managed to unload just three shots, but to no avail as two of them were saved by Farmer and one was struck wide of goal.
Otterbein ended the match with a 20-4 lead in shots, including a 12-3 margin in shots on-goal, while Farmer finished with a stellar 11 saves in goal to help keep the Cardinal offense at-bay.
