Box Score
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team used a clutch goal from freshman
Isabel Sentle with three minute remaining to hang on for a 3-2 win at third-place John Carroll on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals now sit 10-3-1 overall and improve to 3-3 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with three games remaining in the regular season. Otterbein currently sits in sole possession of sixth-place with a trip to Baldwin Wallace next up this Saturday at 1 p.m.
A tightly-knit game was played by both squads through the first 25 minutes of action at Don Shula Stadium, while the Cardinals managed to earn an early 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Otterbein finally broke through offensively to net the game's first goal in the 34th minute as the Cards were awarded a penalty kick following a foul in the JCU box. Sophomore
Katie Exline stepped up and converted the kick for her fourth goal of the year to give the Cards a 1-0 lead.
JCU's Lexi Keller helped knot the score at one apiece just over three minutes later after striking the ball off the crossbar, before Justina Fortson fired the ball into the back of the net.
The score remained tied at one goal apiece at the break with the Blue Streaks holding a slim 6-4 advantage in shots.
The Blue Streaks' Bailey Fischer, one of the top goal scorers in the league, wasted no time giving the team its first lead of the game in the 55th minute, notching her 11th goal to put JCU ahead 2-1.
Nearly 20 minutes passed before Otterbein responded with two goals of its own to regain the lead, as sophomore
Annie Mosca cashed in on an assist from Exline to tie the game in the 73rd minute.
Sentle then sent in the game-winner with three minutes remaining off a dish from Mosca, a play originally setup by a corner kick from sophomore
Haley Hott. The goal by Sentle proved to be the 900th goal in program history.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Erin Gordon earned the win between the posts with six saves to move to 6-1 on the year.
