Men's Soccer Topples ONU 2-0, Posts Sixth-Straight Win

Box Score

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team made it six-straight wins following a 2-0 shutout of Ohio Northern Tuesday night in a spirited Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup inside Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals (8-2 overall) up their record in conference to 2-0 with their first defeat of the Polar Bears since the 2014 campaign. Otterbein will look to make it seven wins in-a-row when it hosts Muskingum on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Otterbein enjoyed a first-half goal to go ahead in the 22nd minute as senior Noah Coons picked up his third assist of the season, crossing a ball on the fly in the box in line for a header into the back of the net from junior Erick Juarez-Manning. The goal was Juarez-Manning's second of the year.

The Cardinals stifled the ONU offense for the majority of the initial period, limiting the Polar Bears to six shots with just a pair coming on goal.

Cardinal goalkeeper Collin Hoffmann aided in keeping ONU scoreless in the frame, stopping two shots one in a diving attempt in the final minute.

Otterbein upped its advantage to 2-0 in the 60th minute, again converting a well-executed run down the near sideline by Juarez-Manning. Juarez-Manning promptly crossed the ball to the far side of the box before it was headed in by sophomore Pau Piang for his third goal of the year.

Two good looks on goal came for the Polar Bears in the final 15 minutes, the first coming on a free kick from about 15 yards out late in the 75th minute that was blocked by a wall of Cardinal defenders. The other came just minutes after as Hoffmann again made a stellar diving save in front of the goal line.

Hoffmann finished the game with four saves for the Cardinals, contributing in a major way in the team's fifth shutout of the season.

Otterbein concluded the match trailing 18-11 in the shot margin, but made the most of its opportunities with eight on goal. A total of seven cards were issued throughout the match along with a combined 19 fouls.
