Box Score
NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Cardinal women's soccer squad tallied its first Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory of the season with a 4-1 win at Muskingum on Saturday afternoon.
Otterbein (8-2-1 overall) now stands at 1-2 in league play and gets back on the winning track after dropping a pair of tough losses in its previous two contests.
The Cards return home for a pair of games at Memorial Stadium next week, beginning Tuesday night with a matchup against Wilmington at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals kicked their scoring effort into high gear in the early going, notching two goals in less than two minutes of one another, the first coming on a successful penalty kick by freshman
Bella Shivley in the 16th minute.
Classmate
Priscilla Severance quickly boosted the Cardinal advantage to 2-0 less than two minutes later, converting her sixth score of the season off an assist from sophomore
Haley Hott on a ball that was slid into the corner of the Muskie goal.
Muskingum responded though in the 21st minute to narrow its deficit to one goal as Ali Gilt fired a shot that bounced off an Otterbein defender near the box and past the goal line.
The score would remain 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals heading into halftime, with Otterbein holding a forceful 19-1 lead in the shot category. Muskingum goalkeeper Katie Bodenmiller stopped six saves to help slow the Cards' attack in the frame.
Otterbein put the pedal to the metal right out of the break scoring within the first three minutes of action, thanks to freshman
Myiah Kelley's third goal of the year on a shot just outside the Muskie box setup by Severance.
Shivley connected on her second goal of the game to push the Otterbein lead to 4-1 late in the 68th minute, this time scoring on a shot to the top shelf of the Muskingum net off the dish from sophomore
Holly Bernhold.
The Cardinals finished owning a 34-9 advantage in shots, 18 of which came on goal. Gordon was credited with her fourth win in goal before giving way to fellow freshman
Katie Both, who stopped two shots after playing the entire second half.
