ELMHURST, Ill. – The Otterbein volleyball team reached 20 wins over the weekend at the Elmhurt College Quad Invitational, rebounding from a Friday defeat to snatch a pair of victories on Saturday.

The Cardinals reach the 20-win mark for the first time since the 2013 season when, coincidentally enough, they played at Elmhurst in the NCAA Tournament.

Otterbein dropped a tough three-set matchup with No. 16-ranked University of Chicago on Friday, falling by scores of 25-20, 25-19, 25-18. The Cards held a 16-15 lead in the first set before the Maroons (16-3) finished strong.

Chicago led wire-to-wire in the second set, and then broke a 9-9 tie in the third with a 9-1 run to never look back. Otterbein hit just .124 in the contest compared to .310 for the opposition.

Senior Morgan Lowenkamp had 12 kills as the only player in the match to reach double digits, hitting an efficient .471 over 17 attempts.

Otterbein rebounded nicely with a pair of three-set victories on day two, beginning with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-23 triumph over the host Blue Jays. Outside hitters Hadley Sterett and Dasha Bruyako both ripped off a match-high 11 kills while setter Andrea Miller had 33 assists, right at her average per set. Lowenkamp was in on seven blocks.

The Cards capped off Saturday with a 25-14, 25-15, 25-21 decision over Wheaton College (Ill.), earning a pair of comfortable set wins before preserving the victory in the third. Sterett and Lowenkamp each hit over .475 with 12 kills each, with Miller tossing around 32 dimes.

Libero Ashlyn Leon had 15 digs in both of Saturday's wins while Alana King-Mendenhall had a team-high four blocks.

Otterbein will have a pair of home matches next weekend against Wilmington and Heidelberg, starting on Tuesday evening in the Rike Center.
