WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's basketball team dropped its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) opener Wednesday night inside the Rike Center, falling to undefeated and sixth-ranked Marietta College by a score of 86-60.

Marietta (5-0, 1-0 OAC) sprinted out to an early lead with a potent offensive attack, shooting 55 percent by the midway point of the first period and building a 25-10 lead.

The Pioneers continued adding to that lead behind crisp ball movement and consistent finishes at the rim, busting open a 51-24 lead entering halftime. Otterbein freshman Justin Carter did all he could to keep the Cardinals close by scoring 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting entering intermission..

Marietta kept Otterbein at a distance throughout the duration of the second half, with both teams playing about even en route to the finish.

Carter finished with a game-high 20 points in just 23 minutes, going an efficient 9 of 13 from the floor and also grabbing three rebounds. Classmate Gabe Watson also made it into double figures, posting 12 on a 5 of 10 shooting clip.

Kyle Woodruff drained four three-pointers and scored 16 points to pace four Pioneers in double figures. Marietta shot an even 50 percent as a unit and held a 53-20 edge in bench scoring.
