CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team nabbed its second win of the season Saturday afternoon, earning a 12-4 victory at Mount St. Joseph behind four goals from senior
Katy Williams.
The Cardinals, now 2-4 on the spring schedule, will get back to work next week and will visit Ohio Wesleyan come Thursday at 7 p.m.
Williams scored twice in the opening ten minutes to give Otterbein an early lead, and the Cards later went into halftime ahead 5-2 after MSJ's Maddie Long found the back of the net in the closing seconds.
The two sides traded goals to begin the second half before the Tan and Cardinal hit a four-goal run, getting scores from
Jamie Kuder and
Ali Kula sandwiched between a pair of Williams goals. The spurt opened a 10-3 advantage and the Cards never looked back.
Sophomore
Abby Smoot scored twice to benefit the offensive effort, which generated a 33-14 shot margin and was successful on 20 of 23 clears.
Veronica Wagner led the draw-control effort with seven wins and the defense caused 28 turnovers. Kula and
Tori Sullivan led that charge with five each.
Goalie
Tasha Williams went the distance to tally a victory while Kat Mapes had 11 saves in almost 47 minutes for the host Lions. Mount St. Joseph fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
