WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team eased its way to a home conference victory Wednesday night, scoring early and often en route to a 21-0 triumph over Wilmington College.
The Cardinals, back to an even 6-6 on the year and 3-2 within the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), have the weekend off for Easter and will ultimately return from a 10-day break on April 22 against Baldwin Wallace.
Otterbein netted eight goals in the opening 10 minutes of the contest and never looked back, eventually getting four goals in the first half from leading-scorer
Katy Williams and three from
Ema Pusecker,
Abby Smoot and
Izzy Naumovski. The Cards posted a 31-0 shot advantage prior to halftime.
Freshman
Jamie Kuder struck early in the second half to continue the scoring as Otterbein kept the majority of possession and its defense kept the Quakers (1-11, 0-5 OAC) off the scoreboard throughout.
Pusecker led the way with a seven-point performance, adding four assists to her three first-half goals for her highest-scoring performance of the spring. Kuder tallied five points (2G, 3A) from start to finish while Wagner also got in on the hat tricks.
Otterbein won 18 of 23 draw controls, paced one again by eight from
Veronica Wagner, and ended the evening with a 43-3 edge in total shots as a team.
Junior defender
Ali Kula anchored the back line with four caused turnovers and six ground balls. At the moment, she leads the conference in caused turnovers this season and sits third for most ground balls.
Cardinal freshman
Tasha Williams was forced to make just one save and picked up the victory between the posts. Wilmington rotated a pair of goalies on the opposite end.
