AURORA, Ill. – The Otterbein University women's soccer team captured a thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory at Aurora in its season opener Friday evening at Vago Field.

Sophomore Annie Mosca tallied the lone goal of the night in the 109th minute of play, tapping in a shot off the bounce following a stellar throw in from the far side of the field by freshman Ashley Rabenstein.

The Cardinal defense was stellar all game long, limiting the Spartans to just one shot in the first half and five total. Otterbein goalkeeper Katie Both helped stymie the Aurora offense, saving three shots while going the distance for her first collegiate win in goal.

Otterbein's offense conversely unloaded numerous shots throughout the game, totaling 19 with seven coming on goal. Aurora as a result split time between two goalkeepers, with starter Caitlin deRuiter and Sammie Gelfand combining for six saves.

The Cards ramped up the pressure on the Spartans after halftime, tallying 10 second-half shots before neither team managed to record a shot in the first overtime period. Otterbein notched the only two shots of double overtime, with the game-winning score being the most important.

Otterbein also led the corner kick battle 8-4, while a fairly close game was called as the two squad's combined for 32 fouls with Aurora collecting a pair of yellow cards. A total of six different Cardinal players posted two or more shots, led by four from freshman Bella Shivley. 

The Cardinals will enjoy a day off from competition on Saturday before taking on Kalamazoo in the finale of the Aurora Classic on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. (CST).
