WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's soccer team kept its undefeated streak alive with a 2-0 shutout of Centre on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals (3-0-1 overall) got on the scoreboard in uber-quick fashion just 37 seconds into the game as midfielder
Bella Shivley notched her first collegiate goal after gathering a touch pass from forward
Katie Exline in the Pioneer box and sneaking the ball inside the far post.
Over 40 minutes passed before Otterbein boosted its lead to 2-0 off forward
Emily Ganz's initial score of her career, as she finished a run inside the box with fellow forward
Myiah Kelley, who dropped a well-placed ball in front of the goal line to setup the score.
Otterbein entered halftime with a commanding 10-3 advantage in shots, thanks to stellar defense in front of goalkeeper
Erin Gordon in her first career start between the posts. Gordon posted a pair of saves through one frame.
Centre managed to up its shot total in the second half, trumping the Cardinals 7-4 in the period but could not manufacture any points. One close call for Otterbein came with just under 20 minutes remaining on back-to-back blocked shots in the box from the Colonels, which led to a change of possession in favor of the Cardinals.
The Cardinals showed their depth on both ends in the match, keeping a fresh defense and offense in both halves totaling six substitutions. Otterbein wrapped up the game owning a 14-10 margin in shots, eight of which came on goal to Centre's mark of three.
Gordon earned her first win in goal for the Cardinals, totaling three saves, while Colonel goalkeeper Sarah Youkilis finished with six saves after also going the distance. Both teams were given a yellow card with a combined 15 fouls.
The Cards now turn their focus to a non-conference matchup at Ohio Wesleyan this coming Wednesday. First kick is set for 7 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
