WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The No. 21-ranked Otterbein women's soccer team continued its undefeated season with a 7-0 shutout against Manchester Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals (5-0-1 overall) led the Spartans 15-1 in shots before freshman
Myiah Kelley put the Cardinals on the board in the 27th minute, earning her first goal of the season off an assist by sophomore
Annie Mosca.
Less than two minutes later fellow freshman Bella Shively added two goals onto the team's lead, before sophomore
Katie Exline added one goal to advance the score to 4-0 at half. Exline's goal was the result of a rare double-assist, credited to sophomores
Holly Bernhold and
Megan Losey after the two helped setup the Cardinal score.
The Cardinals entered the second half with a generous 25-2 shots advantage, thanks to excellent defense in front of starting goalkeeper
Erin Gordon. Gordon earned two saves in the initial frame before classmate
Emma Spinner made her first appearance of the season in goal to start the second half.
Otterbein continued to rally in the second half, earning three goals to seal the win. Freshman
Sydney Young was the first to score for the Cards in the second half, capitalizing off of a misplay by the Spartan defense before scoring past the keeper.
Freshman
Priscilla Severance and sophomore
Megan Aufderbeck accounted for the other two Cardinal scores, while junior
Emma Haussler and
Megan Losey were credited with assists, respectively.
Spinner finished the game in goal with four saves, while Gordon was credited with her second win of the season. Manchester goal keeper posted and admirable 15 saves.
Otterbein finished the game with a commanding 42-8 advantage in shots, including a 22-6 margin in shots on goal.
The Cardinals now will prepare for their their next game Tuesday afternoon at Bluffton at 4 p.m.
