Cardinals Suffer Road Loss at No. 23 John Carroll

Box Score

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal men's basketball team fell victim to a high-scoring and 23rd-ranked John Carroll team Wednesday night inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center, eventually dropping a 122-66 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup.

The Blue Streaks, entering the week fourth-nationally at 104.2 points per game, remain tied atop the league standings and now stand 12-2 this season,  6-1 against the rest of the OAC. Otterbein, meanwhile, falls to 0-14 with the defeat.

The Cards looked sharp early, opening a 19-15 lead by the 12:50 mark of the first half after a three-pointer from freshman Maurice Beavers. JCU kicked into gear from there, going on a lopsided 36-7 run over the next 10 minutes and never looking back. The stretch included six three-pointers from, the latter two coming from John Cirillo to cap the frenzy.

John Carroll carried the momentum towards another high-scoring effort in the second half, reaching 100 points for the 10th time this season and cruising to victory.

Beavers led Otterbein with 10 points, sophomore Austin Springer had nine and classmate Nick Koontz finished with eight. The Cards shot 40 percent from the floor but couldn't offset the sizzling offense from John Carroll.

The Blue Streals shot 58 percent as a team, including a 16 of 36 effort from behind the arc and a 16 of 17 mark at the free-throw line. Matthew Csuhran dropped 22 to lead six players in double figures for JCU, which had 72 bench points.

Otterbein is scheduled to finish out the week back in Westerville, hosting Baldwin Wallace come Saturday at 2 p.m. Stay tuned to otterbeincardinals.com and our social media outlets for updates regarding any potential inclement weather.
