WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team took a loss in its season opener Tuesday afternoon at Memorial Stadium, falling behind early and eventually dropping a 19-6 contest against Kenyon College.

The Cardinals, launching a three-game homestand to begin the 2018 campaign, will next host Transylvania come Sunday at noon.

Kenyon jumped ahead from the get-go and never looked back, netting three goals in the opening five minutes and then extending the gap to 9-0 by the 12:30 mark. Otterbein got on the board with nine minutes to play before intermission off the stick of promising freshman Cameron Finnegan, who ultimately ended the day with a hat trick in her collegiate debut.

The Ladies (1-0) carried a 13-2 advantage into halftime before the two sides each exchanged a pair of goals to begin the second period. Otterbein received its two from junior Abby Smoot.

Finnegan found the back of the net twice in the closing minutes before the final horn, sounding with Kenyon posting a 29-17 shot advantage. The visitors did most of their damage off free-position chances, converting a very efficient 10 of 12.

Kenyon finished with a slim 14-12 edge in draw controls as Cardinal freshman Kiera Mulcahy and Kenyon's Maggie Grabowski each tallied seven to lead their respective squads.

Kat Englert had a six-point day (4G, 2A) for Kenyon while Cassie Hudson-Heck scored five times herself.
