BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein men's basketball squad took a road loss Saturday afternoon within league play, falling by a score of 76-61 against host Baldwin Wallace inside Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets, eager to stop a three-game losing skid, quickly jumped out to a 14-4 lead on their home floor before the Cardinals chipped away to eventually take a 27-26 lead with 5:01 to play before intermission.
BW finished the first half strong, holding Otterbein scoreless from the field and using a 15-2 run to open a double-digit margin by the break.
Baldwin Wallace (15-6, 9-5 OAC) ran its cushion to 16 early in the second half, but a pesky Cardinal team stayed the course and trimmed the deficit back down to a two-possession battle, 62-57, following a layup from freshman
Justin Carter with 6:47 to go.
The Yellow Jackets then took control for good with an 11-2 spurt, running the gap back to double-digits and never looking back. BW shot 47 percent for the day and finished with a 38-29 rebounding edge.
Otterbein had four players reach double figures in scoring, paced by 12 from both Carter and senior guard
Corey Howard.
Nick Koontz, coming off a career-high 19 Wednesday against John Carroll, had 11 as did swingman
Cameron Arminio.
Jake Fetherolf dropped a game-high 18 for the host school, supplemented by 13 from guard Cam Kuhn and 11 from Columbus product Jay Battle.
Otterbein (1-20, 1-13 OAC) will return to the court on Wednesday, traveling to Wilmington College at 7 p.m.
