WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University women's lacrosse team suffered a 19-5 loss to Calvin on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference matchup inside Memorial Stadium.

The Cardinals fall to 2-5 overall on the season in their first game back from spring break in Texas, a trip in which they won two of their three matchups by wide margins. Otterbein will play game two of its four-game homestand next Wednesday night against Mount St. Joseph at 7 p.m.

Calvin (1-2 overall) scored early and often, registering three goals through the first five minutes of play en route to a double-digit advantage with just over 15 minutes remaining in the initial half.

The Knights' Kelly Pepper had herself a day and sparked their offense in the early going with four assists in the team's first six goals.

Junior Abby Smoot helped keep the Cardinals from going scoreless with two goals late in the half to make it 12-2 at the break, the first coming off an assist from sophomore Ema Pusecker before freshman Kiera Mulcahy dished out the second one.

Calvin carried its scoring output into the second half by netting six-straight goals to begin the frame, before Smoot stalled the spree with her third goal of the match off yet another assist by Pusecker.

Smoot would add her fourth score of the game with 4:31 left to play, before freshman Cameron Finnegan made it two-straight goals for the Cards on a last-second goal with two seconds remaining off Pusecker's fourth helper of the afternoon.

The Knights concluded the game owning a 24-16 lead in shots, 22 of them coming on goal, claiming 19-of-25 draw controls. The Cardinals did manage to force their opposition into 22 turnovers, but were forced into 17 of their own.
