WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On a cold and windy night at Memorial Stadium, the Cardinal women's lacrosse team got itself back into the win column with a 13-4 victory against Mount St. Joseph.
The Cardinals, now 3-5 this year, started red hot by opening an 8-1 lead after just 11 minutes and change. Otterbein later held a 10-1 lead before the contest saw just one goal in the final 12:31 of action.
The second half evolved into a low-scoring, defensive battle in which Otterbein was forced to play a man-down after an injury early in the period. The Cards converted a pair of short-handed goals to keep the gap comfortable and cruise to their first home win this spring.
Freshman
Cameron Finnegan netted a game-high four goals while Ema Puscker added three of her own. Now Crowley and
Kiera Mulcahy each tallied two. Crowley and
Julia Karas each snagged four draws.
Otterbein held the Lions to 0 for 5 on free-position attempts and had a combined five saves from goalies
Allison Rhoads and
Tasha Williams. The Cards finished with a 39-17 shot advantage and forced 25 MSJ turnovers.
Kara Marshall had a three-point night for Mount St. Joseph, which falls to 0-3 on the year.
Otterbein will have 10 days off before launching its Ohio Athletic Conference schedule on Saturday, March 24 against Heidelberg.
