WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal women's lacrosse team dropped the final outing of a three-game homestand Friday afternoon, losing 20-7 against a powerful Oberlin College team inside Memorial Stadium.
Otterbein (0-3) will now depart on a three-game road trip during spring break, heading down south for an event at University of Dallas. The Cards will play Alma, the host Crusaders and then finish with Hendrix.
The Yeowomen, 14-2 overall last season and runner-up in the competitive North Coast Athletic Conference, improve to 2-0 this year after also beating Baldwin Wallace earlier in the week.
The Cardinals actually came flying out of the gate to open well, holding a 2-0 lead after eight minutes following goals from
Kiera Mulcahy and
Ema Pusecker. Oberlin settled in and took over, scoring eight goals over the next 11 minutes and eventually walking into halftime up 14-3.
The visitors maintained that momentum early in the second half by extending the margin to 20-4 and cruising to victory. Otterbein rattled off three-straight goals in the closing minutes to help finish on a high note.
Pusecker and
Abby Smoot each had three points for the Cards while Oberlin's Natalie Rauchle fired in a game-high six goals. Leah Crowther and Ali Wessel each delivered hat tricks for the Yeowomen, who were credited with 17 free-position attempts.
Tasha Williams and
Allison Rhoads split time in for once again for the Cards, with Williams stopping 10 shots in the opening half.
