WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team got back on the field after a 10-day layoff Saturday afternoon, beginning Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with a comfortable 18-8 home win over Heidelberg.
The Cardinals, getting to 4-5 on the year, assumed a 4-0 lead by the midway point of the first half and then maintained the multiple-goal lead as halftime approached. Otterbein eventually went into the break ahead 12-3 behind hat tricks from
Abby Smoot and
Kiera Mulcahy.
Otterbein kept the Student Princes (4-2, 0-1 OAC) at arm's length throughout the second period, getting to a running clock shortly in and pushing the gap to 16-4 after
Noa Crowley's third goal of the day at the 15:45 mark.
Mulcahy finished with a game-high four goals while Smoot and freshman
Cameron Finnegan each tallied five points to lead the way. Crowley and
Julia Karas each snagged seven draw controls and Julia Platz had five ground balls.
The Cards finished with a 34-16 shot advantage and were a perfect 14 of 14 on clear attempts. Heidelberg went just 8 of 21 trying to clear the ball and was paced by a hat trick from Angela Lulejian.
Otterbein will be back in action Monday night to conclude a four-game homestand, taking on Ohio Wesleyan inside Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
