BEXLEY, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team saw its three-game winning streak snapped Friday afternoon across town, dropping a 17-5 contest to host Capital University inside Bernlohr Stadium.
The defeats drops Otterbein to 5-6 overall this season, 1-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play, while the win keeps Capital moving along nicely at 8-1 on the spring. The Crusaders bounced back from their only loss so far this year, recently falling 12-11 in overtime against John Carroll.
Capital took control from the get-go, opening an 8-0 lead midway through the first and ultimately taking a 10-1 advantage into halftime after Otterbein freshman
Cameron Finnegan got her team on the scoreboard.
The Purple and White ran the gap to 14-1 early in the second period before Finnegan struck twice more to secure a hat trick and make the deficit 14-3. Capital would maintain the comfortable lead down the stretch, with the Cards adding goals from
Julia Karas and
Kiera Mulcahy to complete their scoring.
Capital finished with a 38-15 edge in shots and won 20 of the 24 draw controls. Goalie
Allison Rhoads made a new season-high 12 saves while Finnegan was 2 for 2 on free-position attempts.
Otterbein is back in action next Wednesday evening, traveling to Muskingum for start time at 7 p.m. The Cards 16-8 against the Muskies last season.
