Cards Drop 17-7 Decision at Baldwin Wallace

Box Score

BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team got back on the field after a 10-day break Saturday night, suffering a 17-7 loss in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action at Baldwin Wallace.

The Cardinals, dropping to 7-8 on the year and 3-3 amongst the league slate, will need to win their final two games against Ohio Northern and John Carroll next week in order to have a chance at qualifying for the four-team postseason event.

Otterbein took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from freshman Kiera Mulcahy just over 90 seconds in, but Baldwin Wallace (7-8, 5-2 OAC) took control from that point and led almost the entire way. The Yellow Jackets built a 13-1 lead by halftime.

Junior Abby Smoot scored twice early in the second half and ended the night with five goal, running her total to 51 on the year and just three shy of passing the Otterbein single-season record of 53, set last year by Katy Williams.

BW finished with a 32-18 shot advantage and both teams won 13 draw controls, with Otterbein's Noa Crowley snagging a game-high six. Defender Cristiana Nicholas had four caused turnovers and four ground balls.

The Cardinals will host Ohio Northern on Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 before welcoming John Carroll next Saturday at 5 p.m.
