WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's lacrosse team dropped a home game to league-leading Mount Union Saturday inside Memorial Stadium, falling by a score of 24-6 on a sunny yet chilly afternoon.
The Cardinals, moving to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, will be back in action Wednesday night at Wilmington before getting a 10-day break. Mount Union, seeking a fifth-straight OAC regular-season title, remains undefeated at 11-0 this spring and 4-0 against the conference.
Otterbein won the opening draw control and later trailed 4-1 after a goal from
Kiera Mulcahy at the 25:43 mark, but it would be all Purple Raiders from that point. The visitors built a 12-2 lead before the midway point of the first period and eventually carried a 17-3 edge into halftime.
The Cards continued to battle throughout the second half before the final horn sounded, getting a pair of goals from junior
Abby Smoot as she reached 40 on the season. Mulcahy scored twice on the day while
Noa Crowley added one of her own.
Mount Union finished with a 42-13 shot advantage, had a six-goal day from Marjie McNamara and four-goal efforts from Danielle Rohrman Sydney Bumbarger and Kenzie Pensyl. The Raiders won 21 of 32 draws and limited Otterbein to just an 8 of 17 conversion on clear attempts.
Cardinal foalie
Allison Rhoads stopped six shots in the first half before giving way to teammate
Tasha Williams.
