TIFFIN, Ohio – The Cardinal volleyball team ran its winning streak to seven matches Saturday afternoon, taking down Mount St. Joseph and Case Western Reserve in straight sets during neutral-site action at Heidelberg.
Otterbein, taking part in the Berg's "No One Fights Alone" Invitational for cancer research, improves to 11-4 on the season and will be back in action next Thursday at Kenyon.
Otterbein made quick work of MSJ to begin the afternoon, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-20 and 25-22 behind a combined 24 kills from
Hadley Sterett and
Alana King-Mendenhall. Setter
Andrea Miller, who was named to an All-Tournament Team for the second-straight weekend, dished out 40 assists as the Cards hit .231 as a unit.
The Cardinals dominated the first game, pulled away from an 18-17 score in the second and then led nearly the entire third set to put things away. Miller added 16 digs for a double-double, libero
Ashlyn Leon had 12 and
Hillary Sterett recorded 11 on the back line.
Otterbein culminated its stay with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 victory against Case Western as three players made it into double-digit kills. Hadley Sterrett had a match-high 14 once again, followed by 12 from King-Mendenhall and then a season-best 10 from freshman
Kate Fisher.
The Cards were tied 3-3 in the first before a 15-7 run open the margin, and then broke open a 13-13 tie midway through the second to pull away once again. Case made its best push in the third frame, leading 15-12 until the Cards strung together an 8-1 scoring run and never looked back.
Miller posted 44 assists up front and Leon added 18 digs. The Cards tallied nine service aces and received three blocks from sophomores
Emily Shuk and
Tate Eppard.
