Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime Against Hanover

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein welcomed the Panthers of Hanover to Memorial Stadium Sunday afternoon for its final non-conference match, falling 1-0 (OT) in heart-breaking fashion. The Cardinals now head into Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play with an overall record of 3-3 as Hanover also concludes its non-conference play with a 3-5 record.

In the first half, both the Cardinals and the Panthers created chances but neither would find the back of the net. Collin Hoffmann denied four strong strikes from Hanover and goalkeeper Aaron Stocksdale saw six Otterbein shots, only having to stop one.

Kamal Mohammed entered late in the first period and provided a spark for the Tan and Cardinal, stealing the possession from a Hanover defender before tripping in the visitor's box with no foul being awarded.

Otterbein had multiple set chances by the break, recording 10 corner kicks but unable to convert any of its opportunities. The second half would be a physical contest as four yellow cards were issued and Otterbein received three. Once again, Otterbein saw multiple chances but unfortunately could not turn any opportunity into a goal.

After 90 minutes the scoreboard remained blank, as Hanover led 14-10 in the shot column and Otterbein led in the corner kick department, 15-7. The Cardinals had a prime chance just one minute into overtime by attempting their 16th corner, however the Panther defense stepped up and cleared the ball down the field to Tanner Korfhagen. He dribbled past a few Cardinal defenders and then ripped a shot off the hand of Hoffmann, which trickled into the net and gave Hanover the victory.

Otterbein will open up OAC play this Saturday on the road against Mount Union at 1 p.m. The Purple Raiders currently sit at 5-0 and have not allowed a goal this year.
