Nationally-Ranked Capital Defeats Otterbein 91-63

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's basketball team fell 93-61 to nationally-ranked Capital Saturday night inside the Rike Center, as the Crusaders shot an impressive 58 percent from the floor.

The Cardinals now fall to 6-13 on the season and 3-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while the Crusaders improve to 16-3 on the year and 11-1 in the league.

Capital started the game hot by scoring the first nine points and forcing an Otterbein timeout. The Cardinals settled in and shortly after and cut the deficit to two points. 

The Crusaders responded by going on an 11-2 run and led 24-13. Heading into the locker room Capital led 49-26 and connected on seven three pointers, compared to two by the Cardinals. 

In the second half, Kobe Long-Weber and Justin Carter made a pair of three's sparking the Cardinal offense. Capital had an answer on the other end of the court as Joey Weingartner made one of his five three pointers. 

Otterbein shot the ball better in the second period by making six three pointers on 13 attempts. For the game, the Cardinals made eight treys and forced 14 turnovers. 

Carter led the way by scoring a team-high 14 points as Long-Weber and Jay Joseph both tallied double figures. Austin Schrek of Capital recorded a game-high 26 points on 77 percent shooting from the field. 

Capital is currently tied with Marietta for the top spot in the OAC, as the Cardinals are fighting for the final spot in the tournament and are tied with Muskingum. 

The Cardinals will head on the road and battle with the Fightin' Quakers of Wilmington on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
