Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio – Cold weather didn't stop Otterbein and Wilmington from hitting the floor Wednesday night in men's basketball action, as the host Quakers ultimately emerged with an 82-60 league victory on Hermann Court.
All other mid-week matchups in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) were postponed due to cold temperatures, but the two schools decided to stay regularly scheduled and traded baskets in the early going.
Otterbein held a 14-13 lead midway through the first half following a
Jay Joseph layup, but Wilmington countered with a 12-3 run to open an eight-point advantage. The Cards only trailed 30-27 as intermission approached, but the hosts finished the frame on a 7-0 spurt to open a double-digit lead entering the locker room.
Wilmington forced 13 turnovers in the opening period and the Cards went just 1 of 7 from three-point range.
Otterbein scored five quick points to begin the second half before the Quakers blew the game open, scoring 17 in a row and ultimately delivering a 31-3 run overall. Wilmington shot just 42 percent for the contest but forced twice as many turnovers and limited Otterbein to just a 6 of 23 output from long distance.
Maurice Beavers totaled 12 off the bench to lead the Cardinals while Joseph added 11 and
Andre Bradley scored 10. Andrew Russell and Kevin Lewis combined for 39 points on the home side, while guard Will Patrick registered another 14 of his own.
Wilmington (13-6, 9-4 OAC) picks up a seventh win over its last eight games, with the only loss coming at the buzzer to Mount Union, and now stands third alone in the conference standings for the moment. The Cardinals, meanwhile, fall to 6-14 on the year and 3-10 against the league.
Otterbein will be back at home to close the week, hosting Mount Union come Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Cards will be looking for a season split after falling up in Alliance three weeks ago.
