Cardinals Fall in Overtime at No. 22 John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio- Otterbein men's soccer found themselves once again going toe-to-toe the No. 22 ranked team in D3 on Wednesday night, this time the result would not be in favor of the Cards. With the loss Otterbein falls to 8-5 and 2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while the Blue Streaks of John Carroll improve to 10-2-2 and 3-0-1 in the OAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Just like the weather both teams' offenses were cold for the majority of the match.

  • The Cards and Blue Streaks played to a 0-0 tie at the half, with JCU holding a 9-3 shot advantage.

  • The first score of the match came at 84:20 when Matt Nigro was able to best Cardinal goalie Collin Hoffmann on a ball played in from William Turrittin.

  • With things looking bleak for the Cardinal offense Gabe Sharrock was able to locate Kennedy Mensah at 89:46 to force overtime.

  • The Cardinals were outshot 15-2 in the second frame, with Hoffmann making four saves.

  • The story of overtime was very similar as JCU fired off three shots to just one for Otterbein.

  • The third JCU shot would be the golden goal as the duo of Turrittin and Nigro connected again to help JCU fight off the Cardinals bid at knocking off another 22nd-ranked opponent.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • JCU finished the game with an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks.

  • Collin Hoffmann continues his impressive play with a nine save effort, playing 100 minutes for Otterbein between the pipes.

UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will return to the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a matchup with Heidelberg, game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
