WESTERVILLE, Ohio- After a week of rest Otterbein men's soccer welcomed Mount Union to Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon to open up Ohio Athletic conference action. The Purple Raiders (7-1-1, 1-0) were able to emerge victorious over the Cardinals (6-4, 0-1) by a final tally of 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Otterbein goalie Collin Hoffmann made a fantastic diving first half save to keep Mount Union off the board on a shot that had eyes for the upper 90.
  • Raider goalie Zach Hlas not to be out done made two key first half saves of his own keeping the Cardinal attack at bay.
  • In a defensive battle the Cardinals only managed four first half shots, while Mount took three of its own.
  • The second half started much like the first, both teams locked in a defensive struggle vying for possession in the middle of the field.
  • The Raiders finally broke through at 62:45 when Jon Schroeder was able to locate teammate Josh Lewis standing unmarked at the top of the box for a step down shot into the top right of the goal.
  • The Raiders tallied another goal at 80:35 when Lewis found himself one on one with a Cardinal defender, using fancy footwork Lewis was able to free himself for the unassisted goal to put the visiting Raiders up 2-0.
  • The Cardinals saw a chance to score in the 82nd minute, but failed to do so as Pau Piang had his shot ricochet off the crossbar.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • This was the first game between the two schools since 2008 to be decided by more than a lone goal.
  • The Cardinals failed to score for only the second time today, despite outshooting the Raiders 14-5.
UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will look for its first OAC victory Wednesday when they host Marietta, kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
