Men's Soccer Holds Off Marietta to Earn First OAC Victory in 2019

WESTERVILLE, Ohio- Otterbein men's soccer earned its first Ohio Athletic Conference win on a chill Wednesday night inside Memorial Stadium, besting visiting Marietta 2-0. With the victory the Cardinals move to 7-4, 1-1 on the season while the Pioneers fall to 5-6, 0-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The match started out physical with the officials letting the teams play and fight for possession.
  • Otterbein collected 10 first half fouls while Marietta garnered four of their own.
  • The Pioneers outshot Otterbein by the slim margin of 4-3 in the first half, with each team's goalkeeper making one save in the half.  
  • Otterbein was able to break its scoreless drought that stretched over two games when Kennedy Mensah was able to collect Will Isaac's rebound and bury it low and away to go up 1-0.
  • The Cardinal offense struck again when Freshman Liam Heard was able to dribble the end line and locate an unmarked teammate in Harrison Eckels for the easy back door goal.
  • Collin Hoffmann made four saves for Otterbein playing the full 90 in net.
  • Dakota Penquite made three saves for the Pioneers while allowing two goals.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Otterbein has now won five consecutive games over the Pioneers.
  • The Cardinal defense has now posted six shutouts in 7 of their victories.

  • Otterbein will continue OAC action Saturday traveling to Baldwin Wallace for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
