OBERLIN, Ohio- Otterbein suffered its first loss of the season Saturday night at the hands of Oberlin College, 70-59. The Cards (2-1) took a 31-27 lead into the locker room, but Oberlin (3-0) used a strong second half to pull away, outscoring the visiting Cardinals 43-28 over the final 20 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, trailing 23-15 at the 9:06 mark.
- Over the remaining 9 minutes of the first half the Cards battled back to take the lead into the half.
- The Cards started the second half strong, building their lead up to six at one point, 41-35, before Oberlin found its rhythm.
- Oberlin, once taking the lead, built the lead all the way up to 12 with 3 minutes to play, Otterbein was unable to battle back.
- Justin Carter paced the Cards offensively, scoring 15.
- Dallas Patrick added 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Zach Sawyer scored 10 and grabbed 4 boards.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Otterbein shot just 29% from behind the three point line, going 6 of 21.
- Oberlin got strong play from its bench with 12 points.
- The Cards held a slim advantage of points in the paint, 30-26.
- Otterbein shot just 7-13 from the charity stripe, something they had been strong in during the first two victories.
- Oberlin capitalized on their free throw chances, going 19 of 25.
