Men's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Big Red

GRANVILLE, Ohio- Otterbein men's basketball dropped a heartbreaker on the road at Denison, 70-69. The Cardinals held the lead with under a minute remaining before Denison attempted a jumper in the lane to take the lead. It was off target, but the Big Red got the tip-in for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Denison held the largest lead of the game, at 35-38, with just a few minutes remaining in the first half. Otterbein flipped the script with a huge 14-0 run, taking a seven-point lead of its own, before settling for a 32-28 edge at the break.

  • The second half remained a 1-2 possession battle the entire way, with Otterbein staying on top down to the 6:30 mark until a dunk from Omar Elliot-Diab put the Big Red up 59-57.

  • Otterbein took a 69-68 lead with 2:38 to go after a pair of free throws from Reid Black. Neither team would score again until the closing seconds.

  • Denison missed a layup with 21 seconds remaining but got its own rebound, ultimately getting a put-back, tip-in layup from Elliot-Diab.

  • Justin Carter attempted a game-winning three for Otterbein as time expired, but the shot was off target and Denison escaped.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Freshman Dallas Patrick paced the Cardinals with a team-high 15 points, going 5 of 8 from the field and also an identical 5 of 8 from the free-throw line. Black (13) and Zach Sawyer (12) also made it into double figures.

  • Carter did a little bit of everything, finishing the contest with nine points, six rebound and six assists in 29 minutes.
