Women's Basketball Splits the Weekend With Centre and Oglethorpe

DANVILLE, Kentucky- Otterbein knocked off host Centre College Friday night, 44-34, in the opening game of the Lee's Famous Recipe / Hampton Inn Classic before falling Saturday afternoon, 67-58, to Oglethorpe.
 
FRIDAY: (Win 44-34)

In a defensive slug fest Otterbein was able to knock-off host the host Colonels in game one of the weekend tournament. Abbie Scholz paced the Cards on offense, scoring a game-high 18 on 7-12 shooting, while also grabbing nine rebounds in 28 minutes of action.

The Cards forced the host Colonels into 19 turnovers, but only earned five points off those chances. Otterbein emerged victorious thanks to a strong defensive second half, outscoring Centre 23-17 over the final stretch. The Cardinal defense held Centre to under 10 points scored as team in three of four quarters.
 
SATURDAY: (Loss 67-58)

Otterbein went into the half tied at 25-25 with Oglethorpe, using a late scoring run to pull even after trailing 23-17 with under two minutes left in the half. The second half saw Oglethorpe pull away with strong defense, forcing the Cards to take difficult and contested shots.

Abby Zerkle scored a game-high 20 points, on 7 of 12 shooting, coming off the bench to play 21 minutes. Kathleen DeCarlo and Angelia Jackson also scored in double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The loss marked the first of the season for the Cards, falling to 3-1 on overall on the young schedule.

Otterbein will be back in action Tuesday, traveling to Waynesburg for a 5 p.m. tip-off.
